Puppy training planner

PupPlan is a puppy training planner for iPhone, iPad and Android, for new owners and for people training an older dog. It has 21 training courses plus 10 trick courses, with step-by-step lessons, homework and quizzes, and a personalised Training Journey that surfaces a useful next step. You can follow that path or open the course for the problem in front of you, and a clicker, squeak toy and high-frequency whistle are built in.

The Training Journey

The Training Journey organises the courses into a progressive path, surfaces a useful next step, and keeps completed work and achievements visible. It tracks XP, levels and daily streaks, and unlocks courses as you progress.

The Journey does not lock you to one route. The 21 training courses plus 10 trick courses stay beside it. Follow the suggested step, or open the course that matches the problem in front of you. Daily plans cover potty, biting, lead walking and recall.

Courses, lessons and the problems they name

Each course is step-by-step lessons, homework and quizzes. Courses include:

The clicker, the whistle and the games

The session tools live in the app. There is a clicker with a guide for charging, timing and fading, a squeak toy, and a high-frequency dog whistle. Clicker training for beginners is the written version of charging and fading. A desensitisation library holds 23 trigger sounds, each with four recordings, for the noise work that sits beside training rather than inside a trick.

There are also 15 guided enrichment games across 7 categories, with step-by-step instructions and timers. The enrichment guide covers the same games in writing.

How PupPlan compares

Doggy Time and Pup to Date focus on logging and tracking. PupPlan is built around structured courses, with care reminders alongside.

Doggy Time says, on its homepage, that it tracks dog training and that you can follow progress over time with charts and graphs. Pup to Date lists training stats: trends, streaks and activity breakdowns, next to event tracking and reminders.

PupPlan’s training is 21 training courses plus 10 trick courses, with lessons, homework and quizzes. Toilet trips and feeding times are reminders you set. The automatic care plan, generated from the birthdate, is on the puppy schedule app page.

Shorter side-by-side pages: PupPlan vs Dogo, PupPlan vs Puppr and PupPlan vs Woofz.

What to look for in a puppy training planner

  • Force-free lessons you can repeat. PupPlan’s courses are force-free, with lessons, homework and quizzes.
  • A marker in the app. The clicker, squeak toy and whistle are built in.
  • A next step, and a way out of it. The Journey suggests one. The course library is still there when the suggestion is the wrong problem.
  • A sign that you practised today. Daily streaks, XP and levels are the record. Completed work stays visible.
  • Room for the rest of the dog. Walks (distance, pace and route history), wellness across 7 areas, and nutrition sit in the same app. They are not required to run a lesson.
  • A price you can read before you subscribe. PupPlan is free to download, with a free 1-week trial. After that it needs a subscription of €9.99 a year in Europe, or the local App Store or Google Play price. No ads.

Guides that match the courses

Offline, languages and sharing

PupPlan is offline by default. The dog’s data stays on the device, and the app works without a connection. A cloud account is optional. It backs up that data and shares pets with family, with the roles Owner, Admin, Member and Viewer. The interface, including the courses, lessons, quizzes and reminders, is translated into 19 languages. Export and import in Settings is a copy of what is on the device.
