Guides

Driving a truck or bus professionally in Ireland

Plain-English guides to categories C and D: the truck and bus theory tests, the module tests, Driver CPC case studies, tachograph rules and carrying passengers.

Car and motorcycle theory is covered separately in the car and motorcycle theory guides. The instructor route is in the ADI guides.

Professional licences in Ireland split by vehicle. Category C is trucks. Category D is buses. Both theory tests are 100 questions in 120 minutes with a 74 pass mark. Drivers who carry goods or passengers for a living also sit Driver CPC case studies. Tachograph and drivers’ hours sit in the truck bank; carrying passengers sits in the bus bank.
